Business in the Community- Skills @ Work Programme

Business in the Community Ireland (BITCI) founded in 2000, aims to encourage corporate Ireland to increase the quality and extent of its contribution to social and economic regeneration by making corporate social responsibility an essential part of strategic business planning. Services to members include Corporate Responsibility Integration, Corporate Community Involvement and Diversity Awareness in the Workplace.

Limerick Institute of Technology works in partnership with BITCI to deliver the Skills @ Work programme. The main aim of this programme is to positively impact on educational inclusion and address key issues in areas of educational disadvantage in Ireland. The programme does this by matching one school with a large local business. Limerick Institute of Technology is linked with St. Nessan’s Community College, Limerick. The programme is delivered to approximately twenty-four, fifth year students from St. Nessan’s Community College who attend six sessions in Limerick Institute of Technology from January to May. The programme includes activities such as how to write a CV, interview skills, taking part in a mock interview and team building exercises. At the end of the programme all participants are presented with a Certificate from BITCI to acknowledge their contribution to the Skills @ work programme.
