Pre-Entry Access Initiatives
Limerick Institute of Technology recognises that our widening participation agenda supports local, national, social, cultural and economic development.
In recognition of the cumulative and multifaceted nature of educational disadvantage, the Institute continuously engages with key stakeholders including students, staff, education providers, communities, statutory and voluntary agencies to identify relevant sustainable initiatives, which encompass the social, economic and cultural development of the region.
LIT continues to build on community-based initiatives and collaborations with statutory and voluntary agencies thereby creating regional pathways and to raising educational aspirations.
LIT’s Access Plan seeks to target marginalised communities and will seek to optimise educational opportunities, resources and services for all underrepresented student groups. Such collaboration may include but is not limited to:
Development of current pre-entry primary and second level initiatives
Development of new linkages with educational and training providers
Additional urban and rural outreach initiatives with marginalised communities and DEIS schools/educational providers
Each year LIT Access Service co-ordinates a kaleidoscope of initiatives to encourage and promote third level education to all under-represented students. These student groups include
- Students who experience socio-economic disadvantage
- Students with a Disability and/or Specific Learning Difficulty
- Mature Students
- Traveller and Ethnic Minorities
