Paul Partnership –
EOLAS (Exploring Options for Learning and Skills)
Project
Paul Partnership runs the EOLAS project where participants undertake a six week programme including I.T skills, CV preparation and interview skills, career planning and team building.
The objectives of the EOLAS project are as follows:
- Participants gain a greater understanding of their skills, abilities, and aptitudes
- Individual Student Plans for further work related skills development
- Up-to-date knowledge of supports available when entering/re-entering the labour market
- Knowledge and understanding of how to identify and respond to employment opportunities
- A good understanding of work environments and employer expectations
During the 2010-2011 academic year, two groups of participants undertaking the EOLAS project visited LIT. The Access Service and mature students, who are members of the GIVE project, welcomed each group to the college.
The participants in the EOLAS project experienced an opportunity to listen to the challenges faced by these students when considering returning to full time education. GIVE members outlined their experiences of student life to date and answered questions in relation to their course, financial issues and childcare arrangements. The groups were given a guided tour of the campus and provided with information on courses available in LIT and the support services provided to all LIT students.
“The aim of this visit is to ensure disadvantaged women make a visit to LIT and see for themselves what is on offer for themselves and their families.” Margaret Griffin, EOLAS Coordinator
