School Liaison Office
The Schools’ Liaison Office at LIT offers a number of services and programmes to aid in the promotion of third-level education and more specifically, to encourage students to consider LIT as their college of choice.
We appreciate that choosing what programme to study and what college to attend are major decisions for students. There are many factors to consider, from programme availability and entry requirements to college location and accommodation costs.
Our Schools’ Liaison service is designed to provide students with relevant information about our programmes, as well as information on entry requirements, student support services and student life in general at LIT.
The Schools’ Liaison Office is an ideal point of contact for second level and post leaving certificate students considering their college options, as well as for parents or guardians, guidance counsellors, school principals or anyone wishing to find out more about LIT and our range of programmes and services.
The School Liaison Office is also involved in developing innovative programmes and initiatives to encourage young people to enter higher education.
Services Include:
- Annual Open Days
- School Visits/Presentations
- Information Stands at schools
- Career Fairs and Exhibitions

Annual Open Days:
Our annual Open Days in October are a major event on our calendar where we extend an invitation to prospective students to visit LIT and see for themselves the great all-round college experience that LIT offers.
For Leaving Certificate students, the Open Days offer a perfect opportunity to visit LIT and find out about our programmes in detail, take a tour of the campus(es) and explore our state-of-the-art facilities. Students can also chat to our academic staff and current students and find out for themselves about the great student experience that comes with attending LIT.
We also host additional information events for students, teachers and parents throughout the year across our campuses in Limerick and Tipperary. Details of these events will be notified to schools and advertised on our website: www.lit.ie
School Visits/Presentations:
School visits by Institute staff can be organised throughout the year. The visit comprises of a presentation and talk and these can be general or department/programme specific.
The general presentation consists of an overview of the Institute, a brief summary of the programmes available, student services and the facilities on offer.
Specific presentations can be organised for any of our five schools:
- Art and Design
- Business and Humanities
- Built Environment
- Science, Engineering and Information Technology
- Tipperary School (Thurles and Clonmel)
Information Stands:
The Schools’ Liaison Office can arrange for a member(s) of LIT staff to visit your school and host a stand to provide information on programmes offered at LIT and answer questions from students or teachers.
Career Fairs and Exhibitions:
LIT participates in many careers fairs and exhibitions around the country throughout the year. If you have an event that you would like LIT to participate in, contact our office and we will try to accommodate you.
Campus Toursand Familiarisation visits:
Students and staff welcome the opportunity to show prospective students around the LIT campus(es) giving them a chance to see at first-hand everything LIT has to offer. It is important for students to become familiar with a new environment and a familiarisation visit is designed to provide students with an opportunity to tour the LIT campus and learn about the services offered in LIT. Our Student Ambassadors are happy to meet students and speak about their experiences as 3rd level students and we can also arrange for a member of staff to give a general or programme/department specific presentation.
Discovery Events:
Various events take place in LIT throughout the year including Science and Engineering Weeks, Games Fleadh and many more. These discovery events are designed to introduce students to various disciplines and the range of career opportunities available. Should your students wish to explore a specific department or programme, the Schools’ Liaison Office will happily work with you and the department to arrange a visit, demonstration and presentation.
Talks for Guidance Counsellors and Parents:
LIT information talks are available for Guidance Counsellors groups and Parents groups.
Publications:
LIT’s Prospectus and other Institute literature are updated annually and are distributed to all schools and learning centres nationwide. They are also distributed at the various careers exhibitions LIT attends around country. Prospective students can also access college publications and detailed programme information from our website: www.lit.ie
