Certificate in Business Studies (IPA/UCD)

| Aim: | | The Certificate in Business Studies offers a one-year introduction to modern business theory and practice. It will be of interest to those, who do not want, initially, to commit themselves to either a two or four-year programme. |
| Entry Requirements: | | Hold Leaving Certificate with minimum of grade C in two Higher Level (Honours) papers, and grade D (Higher or Ordinary) in four other subjects. Subjects passed must include Irish, English, Mathematics and a Third Language.
Learners of mature years, that is learners who are 21 years of age on the 1st January of the calendar year of entry, may be matriculated by UCD for the purpose of entering a programme of study. |

Content:
| | Financial Accounting Quantitative Methods Managing Human Resources / Managing IT Business Administration & Marketing Plus two compulsory weekend seminars and optional tutorials
The subjects studied are the same as those studied by learners in the first year of the Diploma in Business Studies and the Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS Hons). This means that participants take and are examined in four subjects. |
Progression:
| | Participants on the Certificate programme who gain an average of 40% or higher in the assessments will be admitted to the second year of the BBS (Hons) or to the Award year of the Diploma. |

| Assessment: | | Learners are assessed by means of assignments given through the year and final examinations. Examinations are held twice yearly in April and August (Supplementary). |
| Duration: | | 1 year, 22 weeks approximately per year, Tuesday and Thursday from 6.00pm– 10.00pm, Commencing Tuesday 20th September 2011. |

| Fees: | | The total fee which includes matriculation fee, tuition fee, examination fee, weekend seminar fee (including lunch), use of IPA library and membership of the IPA is payable in two instalments as detailed below. The first instalment must be received on or before 14th September 2011. Second instalment to be paid before 30th January 2012. Learners attending lectures at Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) should pay the first instalment of the tuition fee to Limerick Institute of Technology and the second instalment to the IPA (which includes the NUI matriculation, examination fees and seminar fees). Learners attending lectures at LIT should enrol with the IPA and with LIT. |

| Subject Accumulation: | | If a learner does not wish to take all the subjects in any year, he/she may study one, two or three subjects on a phased basis. Learners taking the business programme by subject accumulation should pay €780 per subject. The fee due to the IPA for subject accumulation learners is €390 per subject and the fee due to LIT is €390 per subject. |
