Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA):
Tipperary Institute has been approved as an ACCA Registered tuition provider. ACCA’s University and College Registration Scheme (UCRS) is designed
to recognise tuition providers who meet a set of specific quality criteria and guide ACCA students towards these institutions.

 

 

Aims & Objectives:
This programme aims to provide students with all the necessary technical skills and knowledge required to fulfil a support role in accountancy. Upon
completion, students will have an internationally recognised technician level qualification. It can be used as a first step into a career in accountancy or
to validate the skills and experience already gained in employment.

 

 

Programme Structure:
The programme is structured to run as follows :

Year 1 – September to May

Year 2 – August to May

Year 3 – August to December

The programme is a two and a half year part-time programme classes take place two evenings per week.

Year Two and Year Three modules will be offered in August 2008.

Year One modules may be offered subject to student demand.

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is the examining body for the Certified Accounting Technician programme.

 

 

Entry Requirements:

There are no formal entry requirements to this programme.

Exemptions may be available to students who have previously studied accounting. Details available from the ACCA.

Module Descriptions:

 Year One Modules

Recording Financial Transactions

To develop a knowledge and an understanding of the operational aspects of maintaining accounting systems and procedures relating to invoicing,
receipts and payments, recording income and expenditure, the preparation of ledger accounts, and the preparation of an initial trial balance.

Information for Management Control

To develop the ability to use a computer system safely and effectively and to understand the need for data and information to be kept confidential and secure. To develop knowledge and understanding of how organisations provide basic management information for decision-making, planning and control.

Maintaining Financial Records

To develop a knowledge and an understanding of the techniques used to maintain accounting records and prepare final accounts of unincorporated
entities.

Accounting for Costs

To develop a knowledge and an understanding of how organisations record, analyse and report current and future costs and revenue data for use
within the organisation.

 

 Year Two Modules

Managing People and Systems

To develop a knowledge and an understanding of the role of a manager in an effective, efficient, safe and secure accounting environment. This includes the co-ordination of work activities, the maintenance of an effective accounting system, people management, personal effectiveness and health and safety and security issues within the workforce.

Drafting Financial Statements

To understand and apply the techniques used to prepare year-end financial statements of partnerships and limited companies which comply with
legislation and accounting standards, and to interpret financial statements and the relationships between their elements using ratio analysis.

Planning, Control and Performance Management

To develop a knowledge and an understanding of the application of management accounting techniques to support the management processes of
planning, decision-making, control and performance measurement.

Preparing Taxation Computations

To develop the ability to prepare computations of tax liability for both individuals and businesses resident in Ireland for the purposes of income tax,
corporation tax, capital gains tax and value added tax. In addition, to develop a knowledge and an understanding of the manner in which dealings
must be conducted with the Revenue Commissioners and Customs & Excise, including knowledge of the statutory timescales for the submission of
claims and returns and the due dates for the payment of tax liabilities.

 

 Year Three Modules

Managing Finances

To develop a knowledge and an understanding of the way organisations finance their operations, plan and control cash flows, optimise their use of
working capital and allocate resources to capital expenditure projects.

 

 

Award:
The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is the awarding body for the Certified Accounting Technician. Successful completion of the Certified Accounting Technician programme provides exemptions from Part 1 of ACCA leading to direct entry to Part 2 of the ACCA professional examinations.

 

 

Programme Fees:

The programme fees are:
ACCA Fees: Registration £58 (sterling)
ACCA Annual Subscription: £58 (sterling) payable January each year
ACCA Exam Fees: £37 (sterling)
Tipperary Institute Tuition Fee: €1200 per year
FÁS funding may be available for this programme.
