Aims and Objectives:
The Higher Certificate offers students an opportunity to gain knowledge of and to acquire relevant skills and competences in primary business functions. Key areas of study include management, marketing and finance with an additional focus on personal development skills and computer skills. This broad foundation in key business disciplines gives the student a broad based business education. Graduates can benefit from further education by using their Higher Certificate as a pathway to study at ordinary degree, honours degree and postgraduate level.
The programme is designed to provide students with knowledge of key business principles and functions. On completion of the programme students
should be able to:
Understand a range of business functions and the multi-disciplinary nature of business.
Apply appropriate academic theories and concepts to a range of business issues.
Demonstrate competency in problem solving, use of technology, research, and interpersonal communication and teamwork skills.
Demonstrate a broad range of fundamental skills and capabilities required at the junior level of commercial practice.
Utilise tools for effective interpersonal communication and demonstrate awareness of issues related to diversity.
Develop their learning skills to meet demands of further study at ordinary degree level.
Communicate on most general topics and core business situations and have an appreciation of the cultural and social norms of the target
language they may choose as an elective.
Entry Requirements:
Students must have obtained passes in five subjects in their Leaving Certificate or a full award in a FETAC Level 5 programme.
Mature students (aged 23 or over on 1st January in the year of proposed return to study) are not required to have a Leaving Certificate or its equivalent but will be called for an interview.

Award:
On successful completion of the programme, Tipperary Institute will award students with a Higher Certificate in Business. This programme is offered at NQF (National Qualifications Framework) Level 6 and carries 20 ECTS credits and may entitle you to exemptions from equivalent subjects on the Higher Certificate in Business at Tipperary Institute or other accredited academic programmes. Completion of this programme ensures participants are equipped with the ability, knowledge and skills transferable immediately and effectively in a business environment.
Programme Duration:
The two year programme runs for 24 weeks each year divided into two semesters of 12 weeks over the academic year commencing in September. The delivery mode to be confirmed.
Programme Fees:
The programme fee €1920 per year.
Participants may be eligible for funding from FAS.
