Cisco Network Academy Programmes
at Tipperary Institute

Tipperary Institute is a registered Cisco Academy and we have developed training resources in order to provide for a critical training need in the IT Support and Computer networking areas. We are validated by Cisco Systems to deliver courses from their range of technology courses. All of these prepare students for globally recognised IT certifications such as CCENT, CCNA, CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Server+.

Programme Aims:
IT Essentials 1(CompTIA A+) presents an in-depth exposure to computer hardware and operating systems. Students learn the functionality of hardware and software components as well as suggested best practices in maintenance and safety issues. Through hands on activities and labs, students learn how to assemble and configure a computer, install operating systems and software, and troubleshoot hardware and software problems. In addition, an introduction to networking is included. This programme helps students prepare for CompTIA’s A+ certification.

Entry Requirements:

Although no formal qualification in computing is required candidates should preferably have some experience working with technology or have completed an entry level ICT course such as MOS and ECDL.

The programme is ideally suited to persons seeking work in ICT support and wishing to achieve professional entry-level certification.

Acquired competencies include:

Building a computer and installation of the motherboard, floppy and hard drives, CD-ROM, and video cards.

Installing and managing Windows operating systems.

Adding peripherals and multimedia capabilities.

Knowledge of local-area network architecture, networking protocols and the OSI Model, and TCP/IP utilities.

Connecting the computer to a local area network and to the Internet.

In addition to basic networking concepts, the functions and configurations of a network are also covered.
